WHY DOES MILK PRODUCTION DECLINE?
Description:
There are many reasons for the decrease in milk yield. Under normal conditions, following calving, milk yield increases in the first half of the milking period when there is no disruption, and gradually decreases in the second half. This is normal.
Causes of Occurrence:
1. Sudden feed changes,
2. Feeding a large amount of straw (silage), but a low amount of factory feed,
3. Feeding a large amount of factory feed, but a low amount of straw (silage),
4. Excess amount of grain crushed or additional oilseed meal fed in addition to factory feed,
5. Decreases in milk yield in parallel with the decrease in feed consumption in hot weather,
6. Insufficient factory feed at the end of weaning and consequently low milk yield at the beginning of the milking period,
7. Fattening of the animal as a result of overfeeding during the weaning period and, accordingly, decreases in ketosis and milk yield in the approaching milking period,
8. Sudden drops of milk observed as a result of not drinking enough water or not constantly having clean water in front of the animal,
9. Fodders such as straw (silage) are moldy and spoiled, factory feeds are fed stale after being stored for a long time,
10. Milk drops as a result of mastitis (breast disease),
Treatment and Prevention:
In order to prevent milk drops observed in cows, feeds, especially factory feeds, should be given to animals little by little and within 7-10 days. During the feeding of animals, feeding programs recommended in different ways for each of our products should be followed. Clean water should always be available in front of animals. Deteriorated feeds should never be fed to animals. A veterinarian should be consulted as soon as possible in cases of milk drop due to microbial diseases.
